2009 Science and Engineering Challenge
Written by Brian Edebohls
Wednesday, 22 April 2009
This week on Tuesday 21st April, Weeroona College participated in the regional Science and Engineering Challenge 2009. This event is organised Australia wide each year by the University of Newcastle with local help from the Bendigo South Rotary Club and the Latrobe University Engineering Department.
The main aim of the day is to spark student interest in the fields of Science, Engineering and Maths by providing a series of engineering challenges that school teams compete in to come up with the best solutions in a set time. Some of the challenges were half day while others were full day.
36 of our Year 9 and 10 students, in eight separate teams, participated, coming third overall. This was a great effort and it was fantastic to see so many students engaged in their learning over the day. Special recognition must go to Michael and Ash for their 1st placing in the Air Cannon challenge and to the team of Adam, Zac, Kelly and David for their win in the Electric City challenge.
