BRIDGET CHAMBERS
Social Worker
Bridget is a Social Worker in the Wellbeing Team.
“I support students with wellbeing and assist them to stay connected to school.”
Her career aspirations first took Bridget to study nursing and then to work in a hospital. “I knew that my passion was to help people, but I really didn’t like the medical approach,” she explains. At the time her best friend was working as a Social Worker. As Bridget talked through her dilemma with her friend, she realised that Social Work was for her and this would support her strengths better than nursing.
Listening is one of Bridget’s greatest strengths. “Listening is so important when you are a Social Worker. Often people want to fix problems or create a quick solution but when you just listen to someone it gives them the opportunity to process whatever is important to them, for themselves.”
“When you listen without judgement you give a person a genuine voice. My work is to give students another support network, someone they can trust and have their needs listened to in a safe environment.”
Bridget is available for all students in Kappen and Wannop Learning Communities and if you are interested in meeting with her, you can just knock on her door and ask for an appointment, or leave a note.
“Wellbeing is so important for everyone,” says Bridget. “Students have many different pressures in their lives and I am there to listen. When a student feels great they have better learning outcomes.”
Bridget looks after her wellbeing by keeping active. You might see her on the netball court or coaching the 17/U development squad for Kangaroo Flat Football Netball Club.
