About Us:

Weeroona College Bendigo is located on the northern side of Bendigo and caters for over 890 students from White Hills, Epsom, Huntly, North Bendigo and Bendigo East along with students from surrounding rural areas including Heathcote and Goornong. The College has very strong educational partnerships with its associate primary schools, the local Bendigo Year 7 to 10 colleges and the Bendigo Senior Secondary College.

Weeroona College Bendigo was formed in 1999 as the result of a merger between White Hills Secondary College and Bendigo East Primary School to become Bendigo's first Prep to Year 10 College. The college has a very strong commitment to maximising the educational opportunities of all of its students, and is in the ideal position to implement innovative programs across the Middle Years of Schooling.

The College has been organised into sub schools based on the stages of learning so that the staff can work more effectively in teams. The College has appointed a Leading Teacher to lead the development of curriculum in the Early Years, the Middle Years, and the Senior Years of schooling. The work of each of the sub schools is coordinated by the Educational Policy, and Curriculum committees.

The College has made the development of a high quality curriculum that caters for the needs of all students a major priority over the past few years. Students are provided with a comprehensive curriculum across all domains of the Victorian curriculum. A balanced core curriculum is offered for Prep to Year 8 students. Year 9 & 10 students study a mixture of core and elective studies that make up the Senior Years Certificate.

Prep to Year 6 students have access to specialist classes in Library, Art, Indonesian, Information Technology and Physical Education. The College has enthusiastically adopted the Early Years Literacy and Numeracy programs, and Reading Recovery.

Many of our students enter and perform very well in national English and Mathematics competitions. Years 7 to 10 curriculum is enhanced by a strong emphasis on leadership development programs including Lead on, Peer Support, the Red Cross Youth Development program, and the Tournament of the Minds. Our Year 10 students have access to VCE courses and to VET programs such as the Certificate 2 in Information Communication Technology.

The College also offers a range of programs to support students experiencing learning difficulties in the form of intensive support in literacy and numeracy. This support was further enhanced in 2002 by the introduction of the Restart program for year 7 students.

Weeroona College Bendigo places a strong emphasis on caring for the welfare of each individual student. The College's Student Welfare team includes a full time Student Welfare Coordinator, a full time Chaplain and a part time School Nurse and Police in Schools program officer. Programs in Peer Support, Peer Mediation, Jigsaw, Cross Age Tutoring, Buddies and our Transition Programs at Prep, Year 7 and for students going on to the VCE enhance the caring nature of the college.

Weeroona College Bendigo has strong extracurricular programs. It has a very strong tradition in the Arts including award winning Choirs, well supported instrumental music programs, Bands and Arts Spectaculars and College Musicals every second year. Each year one of the highlights of the school is the annual Debutante Balls.
